Item 1: Welcome and Introduction – Paul Morrin, CSO
- Welcomed everyone to the meeting
Item 2: Census 2022 Preliminary housing results – Brendan Murphy, CSO
- Presentation on the housing aspects of the 2022 census preliminary results
- This included detailing figures and definitions on housing stock and vacancy. Comparisons with prior census were detailed
Item 3: Planning Permission statistics – Shane O’Sullivan, CSO
- Presentation on process and methodology for CSO’s production of planning permission statistics
- Comment on development levy as a source for start on site
- Acknowledgement that planning permission overestimate size of final dwellings
- Discussion on National Planning Application Database (NPAD) as a source for zoning of planning permissions and around timeliness of NPAD data
Item 4: CSO Environment Related Housing Data – Dympna Cory, CSO
- Presentation on housing related releases and work undertaken by the CSO’s Environment division. Included discussion on administrative microdata used
- Discussion on lack of data on sustainably of houses built
- Smart data could be used for “time of day” analysis
- Link to LFS for continuous demographic data
- Discussion on electric cars, odometer data and impact on electricity network
- District heating another new development to be aware of
Item 5: Data improvements in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) – Laura Flannelly, DHLGH
- Presentation on DHLGHs data strategy, streamlining of social housing returns, commencement notice analysis and improvements related to the automation of reports for briefings from CSO data
- Discussion with group on aspects of presentation including on definition of completion for social housing
Item 6: Updates on housing related projects in Statistical Systems Co-ordination Unit - Justin Anderson, CSO
- Detailed upcoming publication showing indicators of housing vacancy using electricity consumption data
- Detailed provisional plans for work in 2023 including applying seasonal adjustments to new dwelling completions, further releases on HAP and the rental sector on receipt of updated data, and potential for matching a variety of administrative sources to Census 2022 data
- Action to discuss the vacancy work with the vacant homes unit in DHLGH
