The numbers of births and deaths fall by 823 (5.0%) and 142 (2.0%) respectively compared to the same period in 2016.

There were 15,635 births in quarter 3 2017, 823 births, or 5.0%, less than the same period in 2016.  This corresponds to a birth rate of 13.0 per 1,000 population, a decrease of 1.1 from quarter 3 2016.

There were 6,987 deaths in quarter 3 2017, a decrease of 2.0% (or 142 deaths) from quarter 3 2016. This equates to a death rate of 5.8 per 1,000 population, a decrease of 0.3 from quarter 3 2016.

There were 49 infant deaths registered in quarter 3 2017 giving an infant mortality rate of 3.1 per 1,000 live births.

The number of births less the number of deaths in quarter 3 2017 resulted in a natural increase of population of 8,648 persons.
