Local Government

Open in Excel:

The local government sector (S1313) comprises all Local Authorities, Regional Assemblies and a number of Approved Housing Bodies.

An annual survey of all local authorities is conducted jointly by the CSO and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

This survey confirms and revises existing listings. It also obtains any extra information required to establish the statistical classification of all bodies under the aegis of local authorities. The following tables are the first publication of this list of entities under the aegis of local authorities. The statistical classification process is outlined in the Background Notes.

Local Authorities

Local authorities, which cover 31 city and county councils, operate under the aegis of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. The data on local authorities was compiled from a survey in May 2020 for the reference year 2018.  See Background notes for more information.
