Household crime is at its lowest level since 1998. How do we know this? Because you told us.

The facts we get directly from you are used to make policy decisions, so if you are asked to take part in one of our household surveys, please do.

What is the Health and Crime Survey?

The Health and Crime Survey (HCS) gathers information on general health and wellbeing as well as the impact of crime on households in Ireland. It is a voluntary survey carried out under Section 24 of the Statistics Act, 1993.

It is a nationwide survey of households that gives us an accurate picture of the health and healthcare usage of households and about lived experiences of crime in Ireland. When taking part in the survey, you will be asked questions about health and healthcare as well as your perceptions and opinions about crime and antisocial behaviour. You will also be asked about your experience of crime in the last 12 months.

The statistics we produce are used by individuals, businesses, local and national government to make policy decisions and to plan for our futures.

We depend on your information, so if you are asked to take part in the HCS, please do.
