  • This competition is open to post-primary schools located on the island of Ireland.
  • Teachers must register their students, in teams of two or three students, declaring the correct age category of the team and by the final registration date, 25th January 2019, to be eligible for the competition.

Two age categories:

–    students born in 2003 and younger  i.e. Students born in 2003, 2004 etc

–    students born in 2000 and younger  i.e. Students born in 2000, 2001 etc

  • A valid entry is a poster sent in by a teacher for a team that has been registered by a teacher, and where the poster is received in johnhooper2019@cso.ie before the final deadline. The poster must adhere to the poster guidelines to be considered an eligible entry:

(a) An online one page poster presentation (oriented either vertically or horizontally) i.e. multiple page presentations are not acceptable and posters must be presented in a single page poster format. No paper poster entries are accepted, this is a computer generated poster competition only.

(b) Acceptable file formats are PNG, JPEG, GIF and PDF ONLY

(c) Posters can be about any topic students choose

(d) Maximum poster file size is 2MB

(e) The poster should be readable from  a distance of two metres (seven feet) when printed on an A1 sized sheet

(f) The poster should have no identifying information on it i.e. student names or school names.

(g) The poster should be e-mailed to johnhooper2019@cso.ie before 5pm, 1 March 2019.

  • There is no limit to the number of poster entries per school, an individual student can only be involved in one poster entry each year, as part of a team of two or three students.
  • All submitted posters are kept securely on the Central Statistics Office servers and only used to create teaching resources and promote the competition. Submitted posters should not contain any identifying information in order to be considered a valid poster entry.
  • The Central Statistics Office will not be liable for any failure of receipt of entries. The Central Statistics Office takes no responsibility for any entries that are lost, delayed, illegible, corrupted, damaged, incomplete or otherwise invalid.
  • The judges will select the first three prize-winning posters, regardless of age category, according to the judging criteria and scoring guidelines laid down by the competition organisers, from all the eligible entries received before the final deadline for receipt of posters. The students and school associated with those winning poster entries will win a prize.
  • The rules of the competition may not be changed or modified and will strictly be applied.
  • In the event of any dispute regarding the rules, competition notice, conduct, results and all other matters relating to this competition, the decision of the Central Statistics Office team shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered
  • Employees of the Central Statistics Office, Project Maths and the National Centre for Technology in Education are not eligible to enter.
  • Photographs of the winning students, schools and teachers together with their names may be used in publicity campaigns.  CSO reserves the right to use any photographs/videos taken at this event, in publications or other media material produced, used or contracted by CSO including but not limited to: brochures, invitations, books, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.
