These statistical references link directly to the CSO's Database Direct facility. Decrease of 38.0% in new vehicle registrations

There were 3,161 new vehicles registered in September 2009, compared with 5,100 in September 2008, a decrease of 38.0%.

The number of used (imported) vehicles registered in September 2009 was 5,306 compared with 7,333 in the corresponding month last year – a decrease of 27.6%.

The vehicle registration figures also show that:

The total number of all vehicles registered in September 2009 was 8,467 compared with 12,433 during the same month in 2008 - a decrease of 31.9%. See Table 1 below.
In September 2009 there were 2,247 new Category A Passenger vehicles registered compared with 3,455 in the corresponding month last year, a drop of 35.0%. See Table 1 below.
Of the 2,247 new Category A vehicles registered in September 2009, 752 vehicles (33.5%) had an open market selling price under €20,000, whereas 29 vehicles (1.3%) had an open market selling price of €60,000 or over. See table 2 below.
There were 3,306 used (imported) category A vehicles registered in September 2009. Of these, 346 vehicles (10.5%) were imported from Northern Ireland and 1,868 vehicles (56.5%) were imported from the remainder of the United Kingdom. See table 3 below.

1: Notes on vehicle taxation categories
A - Cars and minibuses with less than 12 passenger seats.
B - Vans derived from cars and jeeps.
