Decrease of 43.5% in new vehicle registrations

There were 6,195 new vehicles registered in June 2009, compared with 10,974 in June 2008, a decrease of 43.5%.

The number of used (imported) vehicles registered in June 2009 was 6,178 compared with 10,108 in the corresponding month last year – a decrease of 38.9%.

The vehicle registration figures also show that:

The total number of all vehicles registered in June 2009 was 12,373 compared with 21,082 during the same month in 2008 - a decrease of 41.3%. See Table 1 below.
In June 2009 there were 4,792 new Category A Passenger vehicles registered compared with 7,940 in the corresponding month last year, a drop of 39.6%. See Table 1 below.
Of the 4,792 new Category A vehicles registered in June 2009, 1,796 vehicles (37.5%) had an open market selling price under €20,000, whereas 37 vehicles (0.8%) had an open market selling price of €60,000 or over. See table 2 below.
There were 3,555 used (imported) category A vehicles registered in June 2009. Of these, 408 vehicles (11.3%) were imported from Northern Ireland and 2,008 vehicles (56.5%) were imported from the remainder of the United Kingdom. See table 3 below.

1: Notes on vehicle taxation categories
A - Cars and minibuses with less than 12 passenger seats.
B - Vans derived from cars and jeeps.
C - Certain commercial vehicles, tractors and buses with at least than 12 passenger seats.
D - Ambulances, fire engines and vehicles used in the transportation of road construction machinery.
