Wholesale Prices

Survey Purpose:

Eurostat uses this data to establish purchasing power parities for all participating countries which are used to deflate GDP figures for the purposes of allocation of Structural Funding.

Legislative Basis:

Currently surveys are done under an annual contract with Eurostat whereby the office agrees to collect data for transmission to Eurostat. A draft regulation is in preparation which will cover this area.

Periodicity:

Annual. three surveys are performed per year. The salaries survey is performed on an annual basis. A further six consumer price surveys are held on a three year rotational basis with two surveys each year.

Target Population:

Retail/service outlets in the Dublin region.

Sampling Frame:

The Golden Pages business listing for the Dublin region.

Survey Size:

Varies by survey - average of 50-100 outlets/data providers surveyed for the consumer price surveys. The same sample of six Government Departments is surveyed annually for the salaries survey.

Principal Variables Collected:

Prices and product description are collected (in particular noting brand and size/quantity). Each country has to indicate which items are representative of consumption for that country. This becomes relevant in the calculation process.

Principal External Users:

Eurostat. Price level data is not (as a rule) issued to any other party.
