Survey Name:

National Income Statistics Compensation of Employees

Business Area:

Compensation of Employees, National Accounts, Income Division.

Survey Purpose:

To collect annual data on Compensation of Employees (COE) for activity branches or parts of activity branches not already covered by existing surveys, for use in the annual National Accounts compilation

Legislative Basis:

Input to GNP estimates required under EU GNP Directive 89/130

Periodicity:

Annual

Target Population:

Selected activity branches or parts of branches falling mainly within sections of A, F, I, M, N,O of NACE Rev 1.1. Approximately 20 activity branches or parts of activity branches are covered.

Sampling Frame:

There is no formal sampling frame (in the sense of a frame from which a sample is routinely drawn).

Survey Size:

Approximately 150

Principal Variables Collected:

Components of labour costs (aggregate for year - calendar year preferred, but respondents reporting year accepted).

1. Aggregate Wages and Salaries.

2. (a) Employers contribution to Social Security which is statutory PRSI (elsewhere labelled ECSI) and (b) Other Labour Costs. OLC consists of a group of 5 components: employers contribution to superannuation schemes; pensions paid other than from funded schemes; insurance premiums for sickeness or injury; other unfunded social benefits; benefits in kind.

3. Number of (paid) employees (average in the year) - full-time and part-time separately.

Principal External Users:

Eurostat, Dept of Finance, ESRI, OECD etc (for overall National Accounts results, including COE). Results of this survey not published separately.
