An Enumeration Area or EA is the area assigned to each enumerator for the purpose of census enumeration. It is an unbroken area of a manageable size and usually contains about 350 dwellings. Enumeration Areas are not fixed from census to census. When dwellings are built between censuses new EAs are created whilst old EAs can be divided up to form new enumeration areas.
Census is not presently in a position to provide maps of the EAs used in 2006. As an alternative we have produced a directory of streets within each area. The directory provides you with a summary listing of the names of all the streets and/or townlands contained in the EA. Some EA may contain parts of streets and this is indicated by the notation (PT) after the street name - in these cases, it should be evident by reference to the other streets in the area which part of the street is being referred to. There is a separate directory for each of the cities Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Galway and separate directories for Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin.
Users who require a map of an EA can go to the USEFUL LINKS at the top right hand side of this web page or go to the Ordinance Survey of Ireland (OSI) website.
