These Divisions are responsible for the compilation of the annual estimates of national income and expenditure. This information plays a critical role in the management and development of economic policy. Membership of the EU is the main driving force in the development of macro-economic statistics. For EU purposes they must be compiled in accordance with agreed standards and methodologies. These statistics are also used for a number of EU administrative purposes, principally GNP for the calculation of Ireland's contribution to the EU budget and Regional Accounts in the context of structural funds.

Membership of the EMU is intensifying the central policy role of macro-economic statistics. A key factor here is the requirement to fully implement EU Regulation 2223/96 relating to the new European System of National Accounts.

Work on the National Accounts is organised in three Divisions as follows:

National Accounts (Integration)

This Division is organised into the following Sections:

- Government Accounts

- Output Volumes

National Accounts (Expenditure)

This Division is organised into the following Sections:

- Input Output
- Capital Formation and Stocks
- Personal Expenditure
- Regional Accounts

- VAT Own Resources

National Accounts (Income)

This Division is organised into the following Sections:
- Wages and Salaries
- Financial Accounts
